Convert Markdown to EPUB
Have a file?
Converted on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
To convert Markdown to EPUB, paste your Markdown into the tool above (or load a .md file), add a title and author, and press Convert to EPUB. Each top-level heading (#) starts a new chapter, and the table of contents is built from your headings. The book is made in your browser, so your manuscript isn't uploaded.
The chapters below explain how the book is put together and what converts.
01
How the book is put together
- Chapters: each
#heading starts a new chapter file. Text without any#heading becomes a single chapter. - Table of contents: built from all your headings, nested by level, in both the EPUB 3 format and the older NCX format that EPUB 2 readers use.
- Metadata: the title and author you enter, the language, a unique identifier and a last-modified date, which stores check for.
- Links between headings keep working across chapters.
- Formatting: headings, emphasis, lists, tables, code, quotes and links, with a small, readable stylesheet. Images written into the file as data URLs are included; images that point elsewhere keep their alt text.
Books made by the converter pass EPUBCheck, the official EPUB checker, with no errors or warnings in our tests. To check a book from anywhere else, use the epub validator.
Fix the file now
Drop the document into the repair tool at the top of this page. It's free, and the file stays on your device.
Troubleshooting
Everything ended up in one chapter
Chapters start at top-level headings written with a single #. Headings with ## or more stay inside the chapter.
